Meet Lorraine, aka My Wife |
|
|
|
|
Lorraine has been a competitive speed skater, a jammer
in roller derby for over 6 years, a bodybuilder holding
her WNBF Pro Card and Nationally qualified for figure. 3
years ago, she injured her back causing a herniation in
her L4, L5 and S1. She also suffers from a protrusion.
She has had numerous encounters with PT, Rolfing,
Counterstrain, and ultimately surgery that included a
microdisectomy and eventually an ablation. I have been
working with her the entire time with the goal of
creating less daily pain and greater function. Last
year, after immense hard work and struggles, she was
able to compete in the NPC Northwest Championships. She
placed first in open figure. Couldn’t have been more
proud of her. |

Meet Cory |
|
|
|
|
Cory’s focus was to gain size and definition. Cory had
never done any form of CrossFit, but was/is familiar
with typical body building style workouts, but results
were not coming and he was plateauing quickly. He signed
up with me and has made great strides in increasing his
fitness and body composition and is still going strong. |

Meet
Mary |
|
|
|
|
Mary’s goal has been to gain strength and to drop some
weight. She has been struggling with this, but is an
absolute go getter in the gym. She has been doing
CrossFit classes for quite some time and has hired me to
take her to the next level for individual programming.
Mary has severe arthritis in her hip and we have been
working to strengthen it before her hip surgery.
Hear what Mary has to say about her time working with
me: |
|
|
I started working with Ian about 6 months ago
when I was diagnosed with arthritis in my hip.
My range of motion was limiting me and I had to
modify a lot of things. Since working with Ian,
he has programmed workouts tailored to
strengthen my whole body as well as muscle
around that hip. I have never been stronger than
I am now and my husband has commented on
improvements in my physique! Ian is attentive
and respectful of what you can or can’t do. He
even incorporates my love for mTn biking in my
workouts! Even though I will be getting a new
hip, I am looking forward to working with Ian
after surgery. |

Meet
Carla |
|
|
|
|
Carla has been working to lose weight through proper
nutrition and fitness. Carla has a torn MCL in her knee,
has prior knee surgery, a car accident causing a neck
injury to her cervical spine and a cyst in her leg that
required surgery for removal of that cyst. Despite all
this, she has been a warrior in the gym, and can still
back squat (with assistance), deadlift and do catered
specific high intensity workouts.

me: |

Ian has been my trainer for over 3 years. As a
medical professional, I know the importance of
good health care. Preventative maintenance is a
key of staying healthy and living a long life.
Therefore, I believe in exercise and healthy
eating. With my age, (59), and multiple
injuries, Ian has been able to work wonders in
increasing my fitness and agility. His
professionalism, encouragement, enthusiasm, and
patience have shown through with every workout.
He goes above and beyond for his clients,
answering questions and assisting with
performance objectives. I enjoy his humor, his
competitive nature, his ability to believe in me
when I didn’t always believe in myself, making
me achieve physical maneuvers that I didn’t
think I could do. His plans for workouts are
exceptional and individual. I am so pleased to
have the opportunity to work with such an
excellent instructor. I would highly recommend
him for personal training at any age or fitness
level. |

Meet
Rene |
|
|
|
|
Rene spent her entire career in the classroom. After
retirement, she put her physical self first and for the
first time stepped into a gym. With absolute no
background, an abundance of muscle imbalances, a knee
replacement and another knee full of pain she came and
began working with me. Her time has been spent to find
quality of life for daily activities such as gardening
and walking. Our time is spent strengthening her knees,
hips and core all while correcting muscle imbalances and
effective retraining her functional movements to prevent
them from recurring.

me: |

Ian Sprehn is a truly outstanding personal
trainer! I have worked with him for 3 years now,
and am more than pleased to highly recommend him
for his dedication, knowledge, creativity, and
personable skills working with all types of
people. His years of experience as a
trainer, together with his extensive education
in physical anatomy and body mechanics gives him
a really creative edge in designing personalized
workouts and client-based exercises for specific
needs. Always prepared, he is professional
and challenging, and positively motivates
clients towards their goals. His sense of
humor and friendliness makes him a joy to work
with all ages! I am happy to respond to any
questions as a reference for potential
employers.

Meet
Christine |
|
|
|
|
Christine had little experience with the gym before I
began working with her. She had never done any barbell
work and had only dabbled in circuit machines. Her goals
were to lose weight and to gain strength. She is very
motivated, a hard worker and through time she dropped
weight, gained strength and learned the foundation of
weightlifting, using compound movement such as the great
deadlift |

Meet
Sharon |
|
|
|
|
Sharon’s goal is to prevent muscle atrophy, increase
balance and strengthen the best she can to abate her
Multiple Sclelerois (MS). We do not spend time doing
high intensity work, we work with balance, isolated
strengthening and functional movements to improve active
daily living requirements. Weight training for MS, while
many studies are inconclusive as to the best modality,
has been very helpful for Sharon in maintaining strength
and fighting atrophy that can occur through MS.

me: |

I
have received personal training from Ian for
over 5 years. He is knowledgeable, always
attentive to ensuring I am using the correct
technique to gain the most benefit and avoid
injury. He is also very personable, making
working out something to look forward to. To sum
it up...would I recommend Ian for personal
training...without a doubt. |

Meet
Justin |
|
|
|
|
When Justin began working with me, he had a little bit
of experience in the gym from high school weightlifting.
He hadn’t much knowledge on building a workout plan and
was plateauing easily. Justin planned on learning the
basics, get a good strength foundation and then just
take it from there. Two years later, Justin is still
working with me.
Hear what Justin has to say about his time working with
me: |
|
|
Up until this point in my life, I had always
drawn on the knowledge I had gotten from my
weightlifting class in high school. Probably
like most guys, I thought it was a waste of
money to pay someone to coach me into being
fit-I just needed to commit. In my late 20’s, I
d I’d just that; workout out consistently for
about a year.
There was a moment after that year where I was
out at the lake with some buddies and I saw a
photo of myself; within an instant, the
confidence I had built after a year at the gym
was shot. It was in that moment that I decided
to trial a trainer for a month to see if I could
make some substantial gains to my fitness goals.
That was hands down one of the best decisions I
have made in my life. Two years later, I am
still working with Ian- now at a lean 180lbs
(Originally 213lbs), with more muscle, and a
body I still don’t recognize in the mirror. Ian
is absolutely a great trainer, always mixing new
techniques that take into account your body type
and goals. He’s going to push you hard, but
honestly, what impressed me the most with Ian
has been his ability to genuinely listen and
provide invaluable insights and nuances that can
get you to that next level.
It’s odd having your friend circle admit that
you were the reason they started working out,
but that’s
been my new reality. I never thought, two
decades after high school, that I’d be in the
best shape of my life. Don’t get me wrong, its
been a lot of hard work, but with a workout plan
that fits my life, and with support from Ian-
I’ve been able to accomplish something I never
thought I’d be able to.
